Thanks to Lee Calhoun, our on-site reporter, for specifics on our upcoming National.

“I just got back from shows held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. I had forgotten what a nice, intimate grounds they were. The building where we will be holding our specialty has a wonderful rubberized surface for good traction. The building is large enough to hold both the ring and the grooming spaces. RV spots are spaced right around the building for easy access. And you are steps away from the beach and Seaside Park and Boardwalk. Really neat.

But, more than that, I got a chance to see the hotel. Most rooms have a balcony so that even if you can't see the ocean, you can step out and smell it and hear it! The surfers were out on the water waiting for a good set to come in. Took me back to my younger days when I would visit my grandmother in California. Remember, Gidget et al?

The fire pit where we will hold our Welcome Night faces the Boardwalk and our dogs are welcome there. Ventura and the hotel are very laid back places. Interestingly, I spent this past weekend staying at the LaQuinta about 5 miles from the show site and... I paid $30 more a night. The Crowne Plaza is giving us quite a deal as it is still season when we will be there. We ate at a steakhouse right next to the hotel and it was great. Also, the Crowne Plaza is about to open a gourmet Mexican restaurant in house. We stopped at the bar and I had a Lime Drop... delish!!!!!! We popped up to the top floor where the Top 20 will be held. There are floor to ceiling windows and the view is spectacular. A lovely space.

Anyway, thought the membership might be interested in learning more about what we are planning for September. Thanks, Lee”

The American Bouvier des Flandres Club National Specialty is not just another dog show. It is an annual gathering of the breed greats – those breeders interested in perpetuating the Bouvier des Flandres as well as the best dogs in the country.

Each year a show of this scale takes increasingly more financial strength to orchestrate. Financial support of trophies and volunteer help, allows us to offer all of those things that help put the “Special” in the National Specialty. Each donation will be recognized in the Specialty Catalog and website. Check out the full trophy list and how to Sponsor a Trophy. We'd appreciate your contribution to help make another memorable specialty!

It's underway... We're planning the live auction and silent auction. Do you have an item to donate or you'd love to see what's in store.

The Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach, our host hotel, and the Ventura Country Fairgrounds face the pacific ocean with a park and beach walk in between. The average temperature is in the 70’s and the sun shines 250 days a year.

Rates for the 24th to 28th are $159 for a King bedroom or $169 for a bedroom with two Queens. If you come in early or stay later, rates are slightly higher…$189 for a King and $209 for two Queens. Remember… You are right on the beach!
