CHIC DNA Repository Blood Draw
Wednesday, October 7, 2015 (10am – 2:00pm)
Thursday, October 8, 2015 (10am – 2:00pm)
Location: First National Bank Exhibition Hall, Roden-Berger Conference Room (adjacent to Grooming area)
BHF will again underwrite the submission cost for blood draws in association with the OFA/CHIC DNA Repository to support current & future genetic research. We encourage you to have blood drawn on ALL your dogs (both show & companion) and especially those with certain genetic conditions. These affected dogs are especially important to genetic researchers and CHIC waives the submission fee for this important DNA. It is the samples from affected dogs that can be compared to the genetic sequencing of a clear dog, and the outcome helping to uncover mutational differences.
To speed the check-in process, we ask that you complete the OFA/CHIC Repository application/questionnaire: http://caninehealthinfo.org/chic_dnabankapp_main.pdf prior to arriving at the blood collection.
In addition to the CHIC blood draw, veterinary technicians will be available to conduct cheek swabs in association with the AKC’s DNA Profile – but remember; the AKC Profile is used to verify PARENTAGE ONLY and has nothing in common with the DNA information compiled from the blood draw. The cost for this procedure is $40.00 (paid with your Specialty Registration form); a savings of $5.00 from regular AKC fees - BHF will submit & cover postage.
