Judge Bio: Herding - Saturday

Ms. Joyce Norris

Judge Photo My name is Joyce Norris and I live on a 70-acre farm near Waltonville, Illinois together with my husband Joe. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science from Southern Illinois University. For the last nine years, I have been working part-time at Tractor Supply as the "Pet Expert," and since 1982, have been busy with my own dog grooming business. I have been involved in dog sports for over 30 years. I started with Dobermans in obedience, "specialed" a Smooth Collie in conformation, and trained several Border Collies in advanced herding, obedience, agility, tracking, and therapy work.

I have been breeding Border Collies under the kennel name "Norwood" since 1985.The pups I bred have attained advanced titles and championships in herding, agility, obedience, tracking, conformation, and fly ball. In addition, many are certified therapy dogs. I am an AKC Breeder of Merit and have several ROMXs.

I started herding in 1996, and ever since, I have been trialing in AKC, AHBA, ASCA and Open Cattle, USBCHA. My dogs and I have attained championships in three venues on Cattle, Sheep and Ducks. My dog Rocky has made AKC history twice, by earning a perfect score of 100 on AKC started B course ducks, and by being the first dog to earn the new Master Herding title on advanced B course ducks.

Now known as the "Duck Lady", I raise, train, and lease Call ducks for herding trials. For the last nine years, I have also been sharing my duck knowledge through articles, videos, clinics, and herding demonstrations.

I am approved to judge herding trials for AKC and AHBA since March 2006. I have really enjoyed traveling and meeting many interesting people and a variety of dogs.
